Stay determined when pursuing your dreams. That is the advice China's diving queen Guo Jingjing gave youngsters at a Hong Kong Polytechnic University event yesterday.

In celebrating the university's 85th anniversary, Olympic gold medalist Guo was invited to PolyU to share her career as an athlete and her Olympic gold medal-winning experience, encouraging young people to stay determined in pursuing their dreams.

A professional diving athlete for 22 years, she won a world championship at the age of 14 and four Olympic gold medals at the 2004 Athens and the 2008 Beijing Olympics.

But she said that she was not born with a good condition when she first joined the national team and had to forcefully press her leg to shape her body.

After retiring as an athlete, Guo settled in Hong Kong with husband Fok Kai-kong, vice president of the Fok Ying-tung Group.
