PolyU holds Flag-Raising Ceremony to celebrate the 74th anniversary of founding of the People's Republic of China

In celebration of the 74th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China, The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU) held a flag-raising ceremony this morning (Oct. 1). The ceremony was graced by the presence of Wu Cheng, Deputy Minister of the Education and Technology Department of the Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, and Wang Wenxian, Deputy Director of the National Security Office of the Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, who served as the distinguished guests of honor. Dr. Lam Tai-fai, Chairman of the PolyU Council, Professor Teng Jin-guang, President of PolyU, Dr. Li Kwok Chang, Vice Chairman of the PolyU Council, Dr. Katherine Ngan Ng Yu Ying, Chairperson of the University Advisory Committee, along with members of the Council, the University Advisory Committee, the management team, and over a thousand guests and PolyU members participated in the flag-raising ceremony. Among them were also nearly seventy students and faculty members from Tsinghua University who were visiting PolyU, joining the event to extend their wishes for the prosperity and stability of both the country and Hong Kong. The PolyU student flag-raising team conducted the flag-raising ceremony.

Dr. Lam Tai-fai, Chairman of the PolyU Council, stated, "This year marks the 74th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China. Through reforms and opening up, the country has achieved remarkable accomplishments that have garnered worldwide attention, making us feel inspired and proud. 'A strong nation leads to a prosperous Hong Kong.' Hong Kong must exert its full efforts to ensure the steady and long-term implementation of 'One Country, Two Systems,' integrating into the country's overall development. PolyU will actively enhance students' national and cultural identity, nurturing talents with a sense of national pride and mission for society, leveraging Hong Kong's strengths, and contributing to the needs of the country."

Professor Teng Jin-guang, President of PolyU, stated, "In the 74 years since the founding of the People's Republic of China, the country has achieved remarkable accomplishments in high-quality socio-economic development and technological innovation that have attracted global attention. As a member of the higher education sector, PolyU will continue to leverage its advantages in education, research, and knowledge transfer, striving to become an innovative world-class university, nurturing outstanding talents with a sense of national pride, a global vision, and social responsibility, and making greater contributions to the country's technological self-reliance and development."
